1- Cranberry Sausage Rolls

Sausage rolls are delicious all year round, but can make a delicious festive snack – especially with added cranberry sauce!

It may take a little longer to make your own sausage rolls, so if you’re in a hurry, you can buy some premade mini sausage rolls and stick them in the oven for 15-20 minutes before your guests arrive. Then, you can add some cranberry dipping sauce!

However, if you have a little more time to spare, you can make them from scratch. However, it can take around 30 minutes to make the dough alone – so it’s best to pre-buy them over the Christmas period if you don’t have much time to spare!

2- Decorated Gingerbread Men

Gingerbread men can make a delicious Christmas snack and can be enjoyed throughout the festive season.

If you pre-buy some gingerbread men, you can decorate them together when you have guests over for a fun Christmas activity.

All you need is gingerbread men, icing, and decorations. However, you can make your own icing easily by mixing icing sugar with hot water, and a drop of cinnamon or vanilla extract.

Add a drop of red food colouring to your icing to make a gingerbread Santa or a drop of green food colouring for a fun gingerbread elf. Add sweets as buttons, or chocolate drops for the eyes.

Get creative! This activity is also fun for children, and a great way to keep them occupied!

3- Cranberry Cheese Bites

For something a little more sophisticated, why not make some quick and easy cranberry cheese bites?

It will take you under half an hour, and make a delicious festive snack. You’ll just need a drop of flour, some tube crescent dough, a wheel of brie, and a cup of cranberry sauce. You can also include some rosemary sprigs for flavour and decoration!

Firstly, spray a muffin tin with oil to prevent sticking. Then, spread some flour over your work surface and roll out the dough, pinching the seams together. Cut the dough into around 20 even squares, and then place them into the muffin slots.

Cut your brie into pieces and place them inside the dough squares, and then dollop on some cranberry sauce onto each square. If you like, add a sprig of rosemary for a festive touch.

Then bake for around 15 minutes, serve, and enjoy your Christmas snack with friends!

4- Festive Rocky Road

This recipe involves a few more ingredients, but can still be made with children. Festive rocky road snacks are perfect for parties, gatherings, or winter evenings by the fire.

You’ll need:

    • A box or bag of biscuits (e.g shortbread or digestive)
    • 70g of nuts (whatever you have in the cupboard should be fine)
    • 70g sweets (a mixture is best, e.g marshmallows, jellies, or even dolly mixture)
    • 100g dried fruit (e.g apricot, raisins, or cherries)
    • 100g butter
    • 3 x large chocolate bars
    • 150g syrup (golden syrup works best)
    • Sprinkles for decoration

Firstly, line a baking tin with butter. Then, break up the biscuits into small pieces and add to a mixing bowl – the smaller the better! Then, cut up the nuts, sweets, and dried fruit and mix them together in a bowl. Add the butter, golden syrup, and most of the melted chocolate to the mixture with the biscuits.

Tip it all into the tin and melt the leftover chocolate, then drizzle it over the top and sprinkle it with decorations. Chill for a few hours and cut into squares, and enjoy!
